What notarized and sworn translations are

Some authorities want more than a certificate of accuracy; they want independent confirmation of who stands behind the translation. That is where notarized and sworn translations come in. A notarized translation is a certified translation whose certifier signs in front of a notary public, who then witnesses and stamps the signature. A sworn translation is produced by a translator who has been officially authorised, by a court or government body, to certify translations in their own name.

Which one you need depends on the country and institution receiving the document. The notarized model is widely used in the United States and United Kingdom; the sworn model is the norm across much of Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
