What a certified translation is

A certified translation is a complete, accurate translation of a document accompanied by a signed statement in which the translator or agency attests that the translation is true to the original. It is the format most government departments, courts, universities and employers ask for when they need to rely on a foreign-language document. The certification does not change the wording of your document, it adds an accountable, professional guarantee that the translation can be trusted.

In the United States, certified translations follow the standard set by USCIS: a full translation plus a certificate of accuracy. In the United Kingdom, certified translations for UK Visas and Immigration and other bodies carry the translator’s certification, contact details and the date. We produce both formats and confirm which one your receiving authority expects before we begin.

When you need one

You will usually be asked for a certified translation whenever an official body needs to act on a document that was issued in another language. Common situations include immigration and visa applications, university admissions and credential evaluation, marriage and divorce proceedings, applying for a driver’s licence, and registering a business. If you are filing an immigration case, our immigration translation service is tailored to USCIS and UKVI evidence requirements. Where a body asks for an additional layer of authentication, a notarized or sworn translation may be required instead.

Documents and languages we handle

We certify translations of personal, academic and business documents, including:

  • Birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates
  • Passports, national IDs and police clearance certificates
  • Academic transcripts, diplomas and degree certificates
  • Bank statements, tax records and employment letters
  • Medical records and vaccination certificates
  • Contracts, articles of incorporation and other corporate paperwork

Certification is available across all of the languages we translate, from Spanish, French, Arabic and Mandarin to less common pairings. Each document is matched to a translator who works into their native language and knows the terminology of the relevant field.

Accuracy you can submit with confidence

Certified work is only as good as the translation behind the certificate. Every project is handled by a professional linguist and independently reviewed before it is signed, so names, dates, figures and official seals are reproduced faithfully and formatting mirrors the original. If your matter is legal in nature, a contract, a court document or a sworn statement, our legal translation team can take it on with the appropriate subject-matter expertise.
